Fall House and Yard Cleanup Saturday, October 12 from 9-11 am, 248 D St. Please join us to prepare our sangha house for a smart start before winter. Snacks will be provided and this is a great opportunity to chip in some much appreciated time and also to interact with your community outside of our usual silent sitting together! Please bring hats, gloves, tools if you wish and a spirit of fun. Save the Date! Sangha Annual Meeting, December 1, 2019, 4:00 followed by a delicious potluck at 5. This is a very important evening to give your feedback on the progress of the sangha and to discuss new ideas. Please plan to attend! The board election happens every year at this meeting and as we have one open board seat we request that anyone interested in joining the board please reply to this email. Prospective board members will be welcome to attend our November and December meetings to get an idea of how the board functions and to closely connect with our current board. Space is still available for EXPLORING THE DHARMA TOGETHER A Weekend of Insight Dialogue with Nicola Redfern November 2-3, 2019 10 am - 5 pm Insight Dialogue is an interpersonal meditation practice that brings together meditative awareness, the wisdom teachings of the Buddha, and the power of relationship. It has the same traditional roots as silent meditation: developing mindfulness, compassion and insight, while investigating present moment experience. During our weekend together, we will explore the six meditation guidelines that form the core of Insight Dialogue practice. These guidelines help establish and sustain the meditative qualities of mind while contemplating the Dharma together. We will engage in silent and guided meditation, with the majority of time spent engaging in meditative dialogue practice in dyads. Here is the link to the online registration page: https://cvent.me/APdBR We had to switch to a new event system that proved very challenging so please let us know if you have any problems with it. THE FIVE PRECEPTS & BUDDHIST MORALITY PRACTICE Come delight in simple virtuous conduct! A fellow sangha member hosts a monthly recitation of ‘The Five Mindfulness Trainings’ as explained by Thich Nhat Hanh. These are not commandments, rather an exploration in training the mind and heart. If you don’t want to read aloud, we hope anyone interested will feel free to follow along silently in the spirit of playful curiosity. Join us in the sangha house library at 4:00 before the Sunday Sit on October 20th. SNOW SHOVELERS NEEDED Winter is coming and we need some intrepid volunteers to help with snow shoveling. If you are willing and able PLEASE contact Dixie by text at 415-902-4193. Thanks! And very special thanks to the indomitable Dixie and to everyone who has been helping in the yard this year. It looks better than ever! Information about our new weekly Men's Sit, the Book Club and Mindful Recovery program are all available on our website along with a calendar of all events. http://www.salidasangha.org/ With love and compassion and gratitude for our entire valley community and the 892 or more firefighters out there, may everyone be safe and protected, Your Salida Sangha Board
