BOOK CLUB MEETING TOMORROW, WEDNESDAY AT 5 pm The current book is "The Logic of Faith" by Elizabeth Mattis Namgyel. We will be discussing Chapter 3. Everyone is welcome! INVITATION TO A NEW WEEKLY MEN’S SIT Dear Brothers, The inspiration for this new weekly men’s sit was the spring men’s retreat at Vallecitos led by Brian LeSage and Devon Berry. All of the men seemed to agree that one of the most striking aspects of this retreat was sitting in silence and walking in silence with other men. It was a unique and deeply moving experience. The idea of starting a men’s sit at the Salida Sangha jumped out as a possibility for expanding this experience. With that in mind the Salida Sangha Board has given its blessing for us to start a men’s sit. The sit is on Wednesday mornings at 7:30. (It has already started informally.) To start with it is a sit only, without teachings or readings. We will each introduce ourselves and then sit for 30 minutes and then end. We invite you to come and sit with a group of your brothers. This sit is open to all people who identify as men. Paul Vosburgh 505-350-0338 The Five Precepts and Buddhist Morality3rd Sunday of the month, 4:00pm August 18th Come delight in simple, virtuous conduct! A fellow sangha member will host a monthly recitation of ‘The Five Mindfulness Trainings’ as explained by Thich Nhat Hanh. These are not commandments, rather an exploration in training the mind and heart. Mindfulness is but a single thread in our rich tradition. From the time of the Buddha, five precepts have informed and supported the beautiful tapestry that we call meditation. The early Buddhist term, sila, refers to good character, nature, or habit. Traditionally, these five virtues serve as prerequisite for lay people to receive instruction in the sitting practice. They wrap the sangha in a cloth of harmony, provide protection, and ready us to sense the fragrance of enlightenment. Insight Dialogue Retreat - Nov 2-3, 2019 Nicola Redfern will once again be offering an Insight Dialogue retreat at the sanghahouse on November 2-3, 2019. Registration will open in the fall.
