Earth Day Collective Practice

Meditation for Care, Kindness, and Peace

Tuesday, April 22nd

5:00 - 5:45pm at the SIMC House

SIMC is participating with other groups and Sanghas in a collective opportunity to come together for 45 minutes with the intention of sending out care, kindness, and peace to all beings and to our precious planet. We invite you to join us at the Sangha House at 5:00 pm on Earth Day as we sit together and collectively send out these good intentions. If you are unable to stay for the full duration, feel free to quietly exit.

The unity of our thoughts and intentions truly matters, and together we can amplify this shared offering to the world. If you are unable to join us in person at the Sangha House, we invite you to practice this offering from home, knowing that our collective efforts are stronger when united in purpose.

Half-Day Retreat with Denise on SATURDAY May 31st

Resting in Awareness

9:00am-12:30pm - SIMC House at 248 D ST

In this retreat, we orient ourselves toward resting in the spaciousness of open awareness. This practice erodes our tendencies to over “do” in meditation practice and in life. This is helpful not only for our own lives but also for our larger world. The retreat includes a dharma talk, sitting and walking meditation, and a Q & A period. This retreat is offered via Dana or generosity.

Dharma Seedlings - The Eightfold Path

In last month’s Dharma Seedling, we explored the Four Noble Truths, which states there is suffering, there is a cause, there is the end of suffering and there is a path leading to the end of suffering. This path that is referred to is called the Noble Eightfold Path. This foundational teaching of Buddhist practice, which the Buddha taught for over 45 years, provides us with a roadmap to freedom from stress and suffering; a path to the end of greed, ill-will and confusion which is true liberation and ultimate peace. The path is considered “noble” or “enobling” because it is available to EVERY human being. Each of the eight components of the path supports and is dependent on the other components. They can be divided into three main groups: ethical, concentration, and wisdom groups. Traditionally, they are shown in the following order: Wise View, Wise Intention, Wise Speech, Wise Action, Wise Livelihood, Wise Effort, Wise Mindfulness and Wise Concentration. Next month we will begin to explore each of these in detail.

We thank Denise Ackert for these Dharma Seedlings.

“The mind is difficult to control; swiftly and lightly, it moves and lands wherever it pleases. It is good to tame the mind, for a well-tamed mind brings happiness."
